Biopetrology is an international journal founded by the International Biopetrological Association (IBA) aiming quickly to publish innovative research results in biopetrology and related
fields.
The time of paper-printing publishing is going away. Biopetrology will lead scientists to an efficient, convenient, and pleasant net-publishing era.
is a new interdisciplinary science,
covering the studies of biomineralization and all biogenic rocks and mineral constructions, such as
microbialites and reef rocks.
The Earth consists of four earths: a green earth full of life, a white earth full of biogenic minerals, a grey earth full of rocks, and a golden earth full of ore deposits, petroleum and gas.

Biolith (biogenic rock) is the second main rock making up the Earth
This is the part 1 of the ppt prepared by Ya-Sheng Wu for the
invited plenary presentation at the 1st International Biopetrological Congress
on September 23, 2023. Here it is proposed that (1) magmatic rocks, bioliths
(i.e., biogenic rocks), and chemical rocks are original rocks, but sedimentary
rocks and metamorphic rocks are secondary rocks derived from existing rocks,
(2) bioliths are more important than sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks,
and (3) bioliths are one of the four main kinds of rocks making up the
lithosphere of the Earth.

This is the Part 2 of the ppt prepared for the invited plenary
oral presentation by Ya-Sheng Wu for the 1st International Biopetrological
Congress held in Shijiazhuang on September 23, 2023. Here it is proposed that
(1) fabric components of microbioliths are small and have different grades, (2)
because of small size of microbes and fabric components of microbioliths,
research of microbioliths should focus on microscopic and nanoscopic features,
(3) all ancient microbioliths have evolved in fabric and composition, and
inversion study is needed for all ancient microbioliths, so as to restore their
original fabrics and compositions, (4) the objective of research on
microbioliths is to contribute to science and society development, not
for satisfying curiosity. The frontiers of microbiopetrology include (1) to
construct a database of microbioliths consisting of records of
fabric-community-environment based on research on modern microbioliths and experiments,
(2) to construct a database of microbes consisting of records of
microbe-morphology-environment based on results of microbiology and experiments, (3)
to conduct study on all ancient carbonates, ironstone and manganic rocks, so as to
recognize microbioliths, restore their original fabrics and paleo-communities,
and to determine their paleoenvironments.
